LISTEN, LEARN & LEAP is an international and transdisciplinary project that aims to investigate the potential for nature-based solutions to advance equitable and sustainable forms of climate resilience in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.
Our objective is to explore the impacts of, and potential for nature-based solutions (NbS) in urban informal settlements to foster climate resilience, with a particular focus on issues of equity, sustainability, and scalability. Engaging with diverse stakeholders including women and young people, our action research project seeks to co-produce NbS initiatives with low-income residents living in watersheds and coastal areas in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.
The project is led by the Bartlett Development Planning Unit at University College London (UCL) in partnership with the Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction (UCL), Ardhi University and the Centre for Community Initiatives (CCI) in Tanzania, Kounkuey Design Initiative (KDI) in Kenya, and ICLEI Africa (Local Governments for Sustainability).
LISTEN, LEARN & LEAP runs until 2027 and is funded by UK Research Innovation (UKRI) and the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) under their call for proposals on Equitable nature-based climate resilience in Sub-Saharan Africa, which is led by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
